Privacy Policy

Feathered HR is a fractional CHRO consultancy. This policy explains what information this website collects, why it is collected, and what happens to it.
It is written to be read, not to be skimmed past. If anything here is unclear, email hello@featheredhr.com and I will answer plainly.
Who is responsible for your information

For visitors in the United Kingdom or European Economic Area, Feathered HR is the data controller for the information described below.
What is collected
Information you give me directly
When you use the contact form on this site, you provide:
- First and last name
- Email address
- Subject line
- The content of your message
That is all the form asks for. There are no hidden fields.
If you email me directly or connect on LinkedIn, I receive whatever information you choose to include in that message.
Information collected automatically
This site runs on Squarespace. Like most website platforms, Squarespace records basic technical information when you visit:
- IP address and approximate location derived from it
- Browser type, device type, and operating system
- Pages you viewed, when, and how long you stayed
- The site or search that referred you
This is standard web analytics. It is not tied to your name unless you also submit the contact form.
What is not collected
This site does not collect payment information, does not ask for sensitive personal data, and does not run advertising trackers or sell data to advertisers. There is no online store, and no account for you to create.
Why it is collected
- Responding to you. Replying to your inquiry and continuing the conversation.
- Providing services. Scoping, delivering, and administering a client engagement.
- Running the site. Keeping it working, secure, and reasonably fast.
- Understanding traffic. Seeing which pages people actually read.
- Legal and business records. Meeting tax, contractual, and recordkeeping obligations.
If you are in the UK or EEA, the lawful bases for the above are:
- Legitimate interests for responding to inquiries, operating the site, and basic analytics
- Performance of a contract for delivering a client engagement
- Legal obligation for records I am required to keep
- Consent for any non-essential cookies, and for marketing email if I ever send it
Marketing
Feathered HR does not currently send a newsletter or marketing email. If that changes, you will only be added to a list if you ask to be, and every message will include a one-click unsubscribe. Submitting the contact form does not sign you up for anything.
Who your information is shared with
Your information is not sold, rented, or traded. It is shared only with the service providers that make the business run:
- Squarespace hosts this website and processes contact form submissions and site analytics
- Google Workspace provides email, so any message you send lives in an inbox hosted by Google
- Professional advisors such as an accountant or attorney, where genuinely necessary
Information may also be disclosed if required by law, a court order, or a valid government request, or to protect legal rights or safety.
Any subcontractor brought into a client engagement is bound by confidentiality terms before receiving anything.
Cookies
Squarespace sets a small number of cookies. Some are strictly necessary to keep the site functioning and secure. Others support analytics and are only set where required consent has been given.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may break parts of the site.
International transfers
Feathered HR operates from the United States, and the service providers listed above store data in the United States. If you contact me from outside the US, your information will be transferred there.
Where information is transferred from the UK or EEA, transfers rely on the safeguards those providers maintain, including Standard Contractual Clauses and, where applicable, the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
How long it is kept
- Contact form and email inquiries that do not become engagements: up to 24 months, then deleted
- Client engagement records: for the length of the engagement plus 7 years, to meet tax and contractual recordkeeping requirements
- Site analytics: per Squarespace's standard retention
If you would like your inquiry deleted sooner, email hello@featheredhr.com and it will be handled.
Your rights
Regardless of where you live, you can email hello@featheredhr.com to:
- Ask what information is held about you
- Get a copy of it
- Correct anything inaccurate
- Ask for it to be deleted
- Object to how it is being used
- Withdraw consent you previously gave
Requests are answered within 30 days, and there is no charge.
If you are in the UK or EEA, you also have the right to data portability, the right to restrict processing, and the right to complain to your national data protection authority. In the UK that is the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
If you are in California, you have the right to know, delete, correct, and opt out of sale or sharing of personal information. Feathered HR does not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA, and you will not be discriminated against for exercising any right.
Security
Contact form data and email are protected by the security controls Squarespace and Google Workspace provide, including encryption in transit and at rest, and multi-factor authentication on administrative accounts. This site is served over HTTPS.
No system is perfectly secure, and I will not claim otherwise. What I can commit to is that access is limited to what is genuinely needed, and that you will be told promptly if a breach affects your information.
Confidentiality in client work
Client engagements routinely involve confidential and sensitive employee information. That work is governed by the engagement agreement and any accompanying confidentiality or data processing terms, not by this policy. In that context Feathered HR acts as a processor on the client's behalf, and the client remains the controller of its own employee data.
Children
This site is intended for business audiences and is not directed at anyone under 18. Information is not knowingly collected from children. If you believe a child has submitted information, email hello@featheredhr.com and it will be deleted.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, the effective date at the top will be updated and the change noted here. Continuing to use the site after an update means the revised policy applies.
